One of the key missions of Haydneum – Hungarian Centre for Early Music is to uncover and explore the extraordinarily rich musical heritage of the eighteenth-century repertoire associated with Hungary.. Manuscripts preserved in archives, often forgotten for centuries, are being rediscovered in order to bring these remarkable works back into the circulation of concert life.
As a result of their research, more than two thousand works have already been digitised; a significant proportion of them are also being prepared for modern music editions. Each summer, selections from this repertoire are brought back to life and performed for audiences by Haydneum’s resident ensembles, the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Orchestra, led by György Vashegyi, introducing listeners to works that have remained largely unknown.
The programme thus offers an insight into the world of the eighteenth century’s highly accomplished vocal and instrumental compositions, while inviting audiences on a shared journey of discovery in pursuit of these unique musical treasures.
