Over four summer weekends, the “Hungarian Versailles” will once again come to live. The concert series of Haydneum evokes the heyday of Eszterháza with a rich programme that is at once celebratory and intimate. Naturally, Haydn’s symphonies, rich in both grandeur and wit and composed within the palace walls, will be performed alongside Mozart’s splendid piano concertos, as well as works by Mendelssohn, Schumann and Michael Haydn. Beyond these well-known masterpieces, audiences can also look forward to rarities by Kalkbrenner, Albrechtsberger and even Charles Burney, while certain evenings will be given a distinctive flavour by verbunkos melodies, recalling the passionate world of Hungarian music of the period. All this will be brought to life by Hungary’s leading practioners of historically informed performance. In the ceremonially infused orchestral concerts, the Orfeo Orchestra under the direction of György Vashegyi together with Petra Somlai, as well as Capella Savaria and its soloists, will perform, while the chamber evenings will feature Ensemble Variabile and outstanding Hungarian fortepiano duos.
