A Christmas gift from the Haydneum

On the occasion of Christmas, Haydneum - Hungarian Centre for Early Music launches its long-term collaboration programme with the aim of supporting and developing early music education in Hungary

On the first Sunday in Advent, Haydneum – Hungarian Centre for Early Music formally inaugurated its new, long-term collaboration programme with the aim of supporting and developing early music education in Hungary. As the first step in this initiative, in the spirit of Christmas gift-giving Haydneum presented Szombathely Arts High School and Vocational School with 35 valuable scores for their long-term use, thereby assisting the musical advancement of gifted young students.

Haydneum – Hungarian Centre for Early Music, founded by the Hungarian state for the development and promotion of early music playing in Hungary, considers the support of young musicians to be of outstanding importance. The objective of the sheet music presented within the framework of the programme starting on 1 December is to assist in the early music training of young people of secondary school age. During the event, the audience was informed that the Szombathely conservatory not only played a key role in the spread of early music in Hungary, but for decades it had also been a determining participant in the teaching of younger people in their twenties.

“By adjusting to the particular demands of local communities, we intend to support the development of musical talent. The traditions of early music and education are particularly strong in Szombathely, so for this reason it is only natural that we should launch the initiative here,” said György Vashegyi, artistic director of Haydneum.

Haydneum’s long-term goals include establishing similar collaborations with other educational institutions of music across the country in the future, as well as enriching music education with experience-centred learning opportunities because personal experiences bring young people close to music.
