Portrait film about Lajos Rovátkay

The Haydneum – Hungarian Centre for Early Music has produced a unique portrait film about Lajos Rovátkay in 2024, the internationally renowned organ and harpsichord player, conductor and musicologist, which will be presented on 17 February at the Lónyay-Hatvany Villa. Filmed in beautiful locations and with a personal tone, the film not only reveals the artist’s often struggling and adventurous life, but also has a deep professional content, sensitively interweaving history and art with personal stories. The guest of honour will be Lajos Rovátkay himself, who will also surprise the audience.

Lajos Rovátkay was born in Budapest in 1933 and currently lives in Hannover. He played a prominent role in the spread of the Historically Informed Performance Practice movement in Germany. With a profound knowledge of the history of the development of music, he is an enthusiastic and passionate promoter of polyphonic contrapuntal styles in particular.

Admission is free, but registration is required.
