2nd Haydneum Eszterháza Festival – Capricornus Consort Basel

This programme by the Basel-based early music ensemble founded in 2006 and paying tribute in their name to the 17^th century composer Samuel Capricornus brings to our attention three Baroque masters most worthy of rediscovery. Works by Dutch count Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer, who was also active as a diplomat, and singer-composer Franz Xaver Richter are complemented by a fine cantata by Ferrandini performed by Péter Barczi and fellow musicians who, in the latter piece, accompany Olivia Vermeulen, the Dutch mezzo-soprano who dazzles with the richness of her tonality and refined elegance.
