SUMMARY:Chamber recital of Zsolt Kalló\, Máté Börzsönyi and József Balog
DESCRIPTION:Ludwig van BEETHOVEN (1770–1827):\nSonata for Horn and Piano in F major\, Op. 17\nSonata for Violin and Piano in C minor\, Op. 30 No. 2\n—–\nJohannes BRAHMS (1833–1897):\n3 Intermezzi\, Op. 117\nTrio for Horn\, Violin and Piano in E-flat major\, Op. 40 \nJózsef Balog\, winner of the Liszt and Artisjus awards\, is one of the most versatile members of his generation. His repertoire ranges from Rameau to contemporary composers\, and he has a penchant for rarities and delicacies. His chamber music partners this time are Zsolt Kalló\, also a Liszt Prize winner\, and Artist of Merit of Hungary\, a pioneer of period violin playing in Hungary and artistic director of Capella Savaria\, and Máté Börzsönyi\, horn player with the Budafok Dohnányi Orchestra. Their program reveals lesser-known layers of Beethoven and Brahms’ chamber music.

SUMMARY:5th Haydneum Autumn Festival – A Nocte Temporis
DESCRIPTION:Johann Sebastian BACH (1685-1750):\nIch armer Mensch\, ich Sündenknecht\, BWV 55\nMelchior HOFFMANN (1679-1715):\nMeine Seele rühmt und preist (in the past listed under J. S. Bach’s works as BWV 189)\n—\nBACH: Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B minor\, BWV 1067\nBACH: Ich habe genug\, BWV 82 (version for high voice) \nIn the 18th century\, Leipzig was a proud and powerful Protestant trading city with impressive churches\, a university\, public lighting and a thriving concert society. When Bach moved there from Köthen in 1723\, he used all his skills to prove that the self-conscious citizens had made the right choice in electing him to the position of Thomaskantor and\, in addition to his church music works\, he also sought to demonstrate his proficiency in fashionable secular music.\n	Under his contract\, the cantor of St. Thomas Church did not simply serve at the services of the central church of the city. He had to teach and supervise at St. Thomas School\, and had to organize the musical schedule of the other important churches of the city. However\, Bach was not fully content with these responsibilities only: over time\, he also took over the leadership of Collegium Musicum\, the concert society\, founded by Telemann\, the (the elegance of which is evoked in the programme by the Suite in B minor)\, and from then he was in control over Leipzig’s musical life just like Buxtehude was in Lübeck. The two cantatas you are about to hear were composed during his early years in Leipzig: Ich armer Mensch in 1726 for the 22nd Sunday after Trinity\, and Ich habe genug in 1727 for the Feast of the Purification of Mary. Both are solo cantatas\, the first one for tenor\, the second one for bass\, and there are also soprano versions. Melchior Hoffmann\, the successor to Telemann as director of the Collegium Musicum\, also composed his work for a tenor soloist. That piece was attributed to Bach for a time and included in his oeuvre under catalogue number BWV 189.

DESCRIPTION:Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART (1756-1791):\nFantasia in C minor\, K. 475\nCarl Philipp Emanuel BACH (1714-1788):\nSonata in E minor\, Wq 59/1\nFantasia in C major\, Wq 61/6 (H 291)\nJoseph HAYDN (1732-1809):\nVariations in F minor\, Hob. XVII:6\n—\nJoseph HAYDN:\nSonata in E-flat major\, Hob. XVI:49\nLudwig van BEETHOVEN (1770-1827):\nBagatellen\, Op. 126 \nFrom the mid-18th century onwards\, songs catering to the musical tastes of the educated bourgeoisie and compositions written for various keyboard instruments began to appear in large numbers. At the same time\, alongside professional performances\, the participation of knowledgeable amateurs in the performance of music became increasingly important. Haydn’s Sonata in E-flat major (Hob. XVI:49)\, composed for Maria Anna von Genzinger\, reflects this as do C. Ph. E. Bach’s sonatas composed for “connoisseurs and music lovers” and Beethoven’s bagatelles. \nBÉRLETEK 2025. október 16-ig
